Kirkwood prepares for heavy rains

The Town of Kirkwood, which is still in a state of emergency following the June flooding, has initiated an emergency action plan in anticipation of the heavy rains predicted for this weekend.

Town officials today distributed flood alerts to residents and businesses, asking people to be prepared if rain on Saturday exceeds the National Weather Service’s prediction of 1 to 2 inches. Rain exceeding 3 inches could cause the Susquehanna River to flood, town officials said.

Residents should stay tuned to local media and, in the case of flooding, be prepared to move items to higher floors or evacuate. Town personnel is on call for the weekend, as are volunteer firefighters.
